Mapping Food Miles

A tool for creating an honest food system.

 The Sussex Peasant

The Sussex Peasant is an organisation that supports localised agriculture by collecting produce from farms across Sussex to sell in Brighton. By choosing to buy from local farms, they are able to reduce transport emissions, adapt to seasonal availability and put all food waste back into the farming system to feed other animals. I created a Map to demonstrate the physical locations and distances between producers and consumers. The piece aims to draw attention to the lack of transparency in our current food systems, where little information is given about the environmental impact of the food we buy in supermarkets. The Sussex Peasant are giving people the opportunity to connect to where and how their food is being produced.

Our farming is sustainable, our food is
traceable, our approach is socially and
environmentally minded.
