Introduction to Throwing- Beginners Taster Workshop

£50.00

A 2-hour class learning the basic techniques of throwing! With a demonstration on the potters wheel followed by a few attempts each to understand the basic stages of throwing.

What we’ll be covering?

Wedging clay, centering, opening up, pulling up, shaping your pot and taking the piece off the wheel.

Max 4 people per class. This small class size means that each person will get lots of support and guidance as well as one wheel per person for more time making.

You will be able to choose your favourite piece to get fired and glazed. There will be an option to keep extra pieces for an added £5 per piece.

Who is this for? Anyone keen to get their hands stuck in and have a chance to try throwing on a wheel. Ideal for beginners and anyone keen to have some fun and a good go. Aged 13+, and under 18’s to be accompanied by an adult.

What to bring? All tools and materials will be provided along with an apron, however wearing old clothes is advisable. Tea and biscuits are included!

Collection: Ceramic work will be ready 6 weeks after the workshop to allow time for pieces to be dried, fired, and glazed. Pots can be collected from the studio in Lindfield or a central Brighton location. Alternatively they can be posted to you for an extra £10. UK first class Royal Mail.

Location: Great Walstead School, East Mascalls Lane, Lindfield, East Sussex, RH16 2QL. Please aim to arrive 5 before the class. More location details will be emailed to you a week before the class. Getting here? Unfortunately as we are in the countryside it is best to have a car to get here. The studio is a 10 minute drive or taxi from Haywards Heath. There are sadly not very good bus routes nearby.

Accessibility:

Due to the studio being an old building it is unfortunately not officially set up for wheelchair access. However, It is possible to attach a ramp onto the back door but please be aware that the door frame is only 68cm wide (rather than the 81cm wheelchair access requirement). And we do have one wheel that can be adjusted for a wheelchair user. Please get in touch if you have any queries about access needs to the space before you book.

Pottery Breakages Disclaimer:

Your ceramic pieces will be handled in a careful and experienced way. However, the nature of ceramics involves putting natural materials through very high temperatures. There are many variable factors involved in the process, which means that there is always a risk of technical failures and breakages which cannot be controlled.
