Bud vases and Bowls - 4 Weeks.

Bud vases and Bowls - 4 Weeks.

£170.00

This 4 week course is designed to develop your skills on the wheel. There will be lots of structured demos every session to make sure you feel well guided, but with flexibility to make your shaped pieces. We will be focusing on making bud vases and bowls for this course.

The last session we will return 2 weeks later for a glazing workshop for you to decorate your bisc-fired pieces.

Week 1: Throwing cylinder to turn into bud vases. Practicing pulling the clay up straight and then learning how to collar in and create a neck.

Week 2: Throwing bowls. Increasing to a little more clay (up to 650g.) I’ll show you how to bowl out the form with two shape variations.

Week 3: Trimming bowls, adding a foot ring and trimming with a chuck.

Week 4. Glazing. I will show you a few different glazing techniques, with lots of different glaze colours to choose from.

4 pots are included
with this course to be fired and glazed. Any additional pieces you want to keep will be an extra £5 per pot.

Who is this for? This class is for adults who have completed a beginners throwing workshop already, either with me or someone else. It would be perfect for someone who is beginning to feel comfortable with centering and starting to pull up small quantities of clay (1lb).

There are 4 people per workshop to allow for a more personalised, attentive teaching within a small group setting and maximum time on the wheel.

What to bring? All tools and materials will be provided along with an apron. Wearing old clothes is advisable. Tea and biscuits are included!

Collection: Ceramic work will be ready 6 weeks after the final workshop to allow time for pieces to be dried, fired, and glazed. Pots can be collected from my studio in Lindfield or a central Brighton location. Alternatively they can be posted to you for an extra £10. UK first class Royal Mail.

Location: Great Walstead Studios at Great Walstead School. East Mascalls Lane, Lindfield, East Sussex, RH16 2QL. Please aim to arrive 5 before the class. Location details and a map will be emailed to you a week before the class.

Accessibility:

Due to the studio being an old building it is unfortunately not officially set up for wheelchair access. However, It is possible to attach a ramp onto the back door but please be aware that the door frame is only 68cm wide (rather than the 81cm wheelchair access requirement). And we do have one wheel that can be adjusted for a wheelchair user. Please get in touch if you have any queries about access needs to the space before you book.

Pottery Breakages Disclaimer:

Your ceramic pieces will be handled in a careful and experienced way. However, the nature of ceramics involves putting natural materials through very high temperatures. There are many variable factors involved in the process, which means that there is always a risk of technical failures and breakages which cannot be controlled.
